It depends on where you live. Near the water, salt air rusts roofing nails. On the South Shore, strong wind lifts shingle edges. Inland, ice builds up at the gutters.

Owens Corning Duration asphalt shingles on the full Owens Corning roof system. We register the warranty and Owens Corning emails it to you. Our own labor warranty covers the install.
Everything in Standard, with a better leak barrier and underlayment. You get 50 years of coverage on materials and labor, backed by Owens Corning, not the roofer. It moves to the new owner if you sell.
Metal strips along every gutter line. New York State code requires it. It keeps water off the wood behind your gutters.
A waterproof layer 6 feet up from the gutters, or 9 feet on wide overhangs. Code says it must reach 2 feet past the outside wall. Many roofers only install 3 feet.
Covers the rest of the roof. It is stronger than old tar paper and does not tear in wind.
Owens Corning Starter Strip Plus on every edge. It has glue from the factory, so wind can't get under the first row.
Six hot-dip galvanized nails in each shingle. These nails resist rust from Long Island salt air much longer than regular nails.
Copper, not aluminum, where the roof meets the chimney. This is where leaks start most often.
A ridge vent at the top if air can come in at the bottom. If it can't, we add an Owens Corning intake vent.
Matching Owens Corning cap shingles on every ridge. Then we register your warranty.
