Smart Choice Contracting replaces and repairs asphalt roofs throughout West Hills. Michael Falco, the owner, walks the roof and prices the job himself before you get a number. We're one of ten Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractors on Long Island.
We cover the whole hamlet — the wooded lots around West Hills County Park and Jayne's Hill, the properties off Sweet Hollow Road and Chichester, the horse country up along Round Swamp and West Hills Road, and the streets running down toward Melville and Huntington. Worth knowing: West Hills shares the 11743 ZIP with Huntington, Halesite and Lloyd Harbor, so the ZIP alone doesn't say much about your address. Send it over and Michael will come out and tell you plainly what he finds.
West Hills is the high ground. Jayne's Hill, up in West Hills County Park, is the highest natural point on Long Island at about 400 feet, and the whole hamlet sits on the ridge and slopes around it. Big homes on big wooded lots, no waterfront anywhere in it. That combination gives West Hills roofs a specific set of problems, different from the harbor hamlets and different from the flat inland ones.
Roofs are the whole business, not a sideline. Three ways we help West Hills homeowners.
Asphalt roof replacements across West Hills. Pick one of two complete Owens Corning systems, and our own crew — never a sub — installs it. Warranty coverage reaches 50 years.
Asphalt Shingle InstallationWind damage, chimney leaks, failed flashing. When a repair is genuinely the right call, that's what we'll quote. Michael goes up himself and gives you a straight read on repair versus replace.
Emergency Roof RepairAn honest assessment of the roof and the attic both, with a written estimate and nobody pressuring you. Worth doing before a purchase, before listing, or when your homeowners policy renews.
Leak DetectionWe quote the job as a whole rather than by the square, because square footage alone doesn't tell you what a roof actually needs. Everything gets itemized, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise.Where you fall in that range depends on:
Duration shingles from Owens Corning, Rhino ice and water shield, ProArmor underlayment. The Limited Lifetime material warranty pays 100% on manufacturer defects through year ten, then steps down gradually until year fifty.
The Standard system with the underlayment and leak barrier stepped up to Deck Defense and WeatherLock Mat. That upgrade unlocks the Owens Corning Platinum Warranty, a full fifty years of 100% material coverage, plus fifty years on workmanship, warrantied by Owens Corning rather than by us.
You choose between two complete Owens Corning systems. We install both with the same crew and the same care. The difference is the materials and the warranty.
Only ten contractors on all of Long Island carry Owens Corning Platinum Preferred status. We're one of them, and you can verify it on Owens Corning's contractor locator.
Half a century of coverage on materials and labor both.
Our policy is written for roofing specifically. A lot of general contractor coverage excludes roof work in the fine print.
Yes. West Hills is an unincorporated hamlet, so it falls under the Town of Huntington rather than a village building department. We file the application, name the Town as a certificate holder on our insurance the way they require, and stay with it through final inspection. None of it lands on you. Note that your ZIP won't tell you your jurisdiction here — 11743 also covers Lloyd Harbor, which is an incorporated village with its own building department.
More than most people expect. West Hills sits on the highest ground on Long Island, and elevation does what proximity to water does elsewhere — it removes whatever was breaking the wind. We've seen more lifted shingle courses on this ridge than in plenty of places closer to the Sound. It's why we drive six nails instead of four and seal the starter strip rather than treating it as optional.
Partly. Shade slows down the visible aging, which is why West Hills roofs often look better than they are. What the shade doesn't fix is an attic that can't breathe — shingles still get brittle from underneath, and you find out late. The trees also fill your valleys with debris that traps water against the deck. We look at the attic and the valleys, not just the shingle surface.
Figure $11,000 to $13,000 for a typical larger West Hills home. Size, roofline complexity, pitch, and decking condition drive the number. Estimates are free and fully itemized.
Most run one to two days. A large home with several roof planes and heavy flashing work can go to three. We tell you which yours is when we quote it, and your roof is never left open overnight.
Both. Licensed in Suffolk and Nassau County, insured specifically for roofing work. Suffolk home improvement license #HI-62204 — verify it through Suffolk County Consumer Affairs before you sign with us or anyone else.
Book a time and Michael Falco comes to your West Hills home, walks the roof, checks the attic, and leaves you with an itemized quote. Nobody calls you afterward with a pitch.
